It’s been 2 years since the last post, and over 7 since we set off on this adventure. Where has the time gone?
With the World finally coming to terms with the fact that Covid is here to stay, we were able to leave Australia in May ’22, after nearly 3 years!
Our last couple of weeks were spent getting rid of a lot of accumulated “stuff” and, most importantly – selling the car. Amazingly, after taking us all around Australia (a couple of times) we still came away with a profit!

We also used the time to renew our passports. It’s such a relief to have brand spanking new ones with all empty pages!
Before leaving Australia, our trusted travelling companion – Ratty – ticked some experiences off his bucket list:

Riding a dinosaur – ✅

Surfing with whales (and a hot Sheila) – ✅
And finally we were on our way again.

Cairns Airport – Completely empty
First stop was Singapore for a few days and then on to Vietnam for our birthdays where we promptly came down with Covid. Luckily it was nothing more than a snivel, but we still had to isolate. That left us with 3 days to enjoy Hoi An.

Then it was on to Malaysia (where we are at the moment). Kuala Lumpur is kind of our base. Our PO Box and bank accounts are here and, as we hadn’t been able to get back for over 3 years, there was a lot to sort out.
We decided to rent an apartment for 6 months, right in the centre, next to the Petronas Towers, with the park and running track on our doorstep.

Best friends in KLCC Park (our apartment on the very right)
On the 1st of January ’23 we leave the apartment and move 200 metres down the road to our favourite hotel (Mandarin Oriental) for 5 days. Then we fly to Indonesia, Bali. We’ve got a 6 month visa so that’ll give us plenty of time to check out how Bali has changed.
Some of the new rules the Indonesian government is introducing are a cause for concern and visa policies are changing too. We’ll have to see how this pans out.
Thailand is starting to look more attractive – Not only are there more visa options, but, as apposed to some other S/E Asian countries, the Thai government seems to be more welcoming to foreigners. Watch this space! 😃
In the mean time, here’s wishing everyone a very
Lovely to hear from you again, all sounds very good. Enjoy 2023, Dave (from a warm Oman)

I was wondering how things were going, I guess Australia for 3 years was ok overall. I loved our brief visit in 2003.
We’ve settled in France now and getting used to everything. We don’t travel so much now especially since Chris started acquiring animals and is learning to cook French style. Also it’s surprising how many friends and contacts we have accumulated here.
I’ve restarted doing diy, improving French and various arty projects, which I’ve enjoyed and we regularly go to nl and uk to see family. Climate, covid and inflation aside, I would recommend early retirement to anyone. We only use our alarm to boil eggs!!!
Off to Caen today for Xmas shopping and something to eat I hope.
Good to see Kevin and Helen looking well I’ve not seen them since they left work.
Glad you’re posting again it’s fun to share in a small way your adventures.
Ciao for now
Paul

Hi to both of you 👋🏻
It was great catching up on all of your travelling endeavours. It sounds like you’re both still so enjoying yourselves. I love all of the photos, I particularly liked seeing all of Rattys antics!! He looks so cute, I was rather concerned to see him whizzing around the tree tops attached to a drone, I’m so glad he didn’t fall off and get lost amongst the undergrowth!! Keep him safe.
Enjoy KL, wonder we definitely will pay you a visit. We’re overdue a game of Trivial Pursuit which was always more complicated after several schnapps!! Being attacked by a parrot was a bit of a low point too 🤣😂🤣😂
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU BOTH.
Love Sara oh and him too. Xx

🤣😂Remember it well! Would love to catch up again. Maybe leave out the schnapps and stick to wine though😇. Ratty is safe and sound (minus a bit of fur) and looking forward to future adventures. Loads of love from both of us and have a great Christmas xx
