Decision made!

With our travels in Australia over, it’s time to think about what to do and where to go next.

Lucky for us, we’ve just spent the past month on Bali, eating great food, meeting up with great friends and enjoying marvellous weather:

It’s also given us the time to consider the future and make some plans. The result is that we’re now pretty certain Central and South America are going to be our next major destinations. Not only are we very excited about going to new places but, when we first started considering early retirement many moons ago, Panama, Nicaragua and Ecuador were on the list of possible places to settle down. It’ll be interesting to see what we think now.

The best time to arrive there is beginning of January so we’re intending to spend the time between now and then getting to know Malaysia.  This will give us an idea of whether or not we may want to put down roots there one day.

First we’ll have to spend some time in Kuala Lumpur. The chances are that when we leave Asia we may not be returning for a couple of years so we need to sort out bank stuff, pick up new Dutch credit cards from our PO box (hopefully they will be there), renew Dave’s driver’s license and a host of other things.

Then it’s off to the Perhentian Islands for at least a month. We haven’t been there for several years, loved it at the time and are really looking forward to going back and being a couple of beach bums for a while.

From there we may head down to Melaka. It’s a lovely place and was made a UNESCO world heritage site in 2008.

After that we’d like to do a long term (2-3 months) rental on the island of Penang before heading off to Langkawi for a few months.

langkawiThis will bring us up to December when it’ll be time to take the long flight to Panama. Originally we wanted to break up  the journey by spending time travelling around the Cyclade Islands in Greece (our favourite European destination). However, time-wise and weather-wise this doesn’t work out so we’ll do it on the way back.

Tomorrow we leave Bali and are unlikely to return for quite a while.  Amongst a lot other things, I’m going to miss the amazing food we’ve had here!

Mind you, eating in Malaysia is something to look forward to!

    Hi both

Great to see you enjoying everything and the time has come for me to early retire also.

Despite plan evolutions I am actually going on the day I originally planned 1st October 2018 when we spoke before you left.

Perhaps we’ll meet up at some point in the future

My uncle made Nicaragua his base, he rated the standard of living and health service.

    Cheers Paul

Enjoying your bog. Looks like we may cross over sometime later this year or early next. I’m taking a senior gap year and am likely to be in Thailand October onwards for a few months and then also over to South America in time for the Dakar. Not decided yet as I may go from Thailand to New Zrealand first. Anyway, will keep watching! C U

Whoa, lots of developments! Looking forward to read new adventures and happy to read you are not bored yet with the travelling lifestyle ; ), although your plans settling down for a bit longer makes sense…
